subject: temporary carrier

I've been meaning to mention this for some time now, and kept
forgetting.
I discovered a good temporary carrier for emergency or short-term
transportation of small birds. A 24 pack soft drink "cube" box (not
the "suitcase" shaped box) works great! It has air holes along the
sides, a built-in handle, and an opening that's large enough to stick a
hand through. Yes, it'd be chewed up fairly fast by anything bigger than
a cockatiel, but for short trips or emergencies it works quite well.
When I sell a bird, I usually provide an inexpensive carrier of some
sort. I had used the last of my usual bird boxes, and hadn't realized
it. I sold a cockatiel baby a couple months back, and discovered the
error when it was time for the baby to leave. A frantic search around
the house turned up the soda box. The Coke "cube" was perfect to hold
the baby tiel without damaging his tail--he had plenty of room to move
around in there.
I may just begin saving up a few for the next clutch of tiels!
