Subject: Re: These Are the Continuing Voyages: 5 Reasons Why Star Trek: The Animated
These days the original series is known as "TOS". But when Next
Gen first premiered, it was not called "TOS", but rather
"Classic Trek", which was a play on words about the New
Coke/Classic Coke issue which was then current. At that time, we continued
the Coke analogy by calling TAS "Diet Trek". It was funny then,
but probably few would get the joke now.
The series isn't awesome, but it's highly underrated, maybe better than
TOS's Third Season, all things considered. It had its flaws, some serious,
but on the whole was one of the better TV Shows Adapted to Animation. That
was a big thing in those days, by the way. My Favorite Martian, Partridge
Family (2200 AD), Gilligan's Planet, I Dream of Jeannie, you name it. Just
as today the craze is in remaking old shows, in those days the craze was
making cartoon versions of them.
