True, they appear to either work properly, or not at all.  It was just
easier at the time to stick a LED in a BNC plug, and bung it in the Ch2
connector on the CRO (I don't use dual-trace all that often), so that it's
always instantly available if I need it.

I've finally managed to talk him out of it, but AFAIK, they were not PIR
sensors at all, but the beam type with a Tx and Rx diode (just like those
portrayed in "The Wrong Trousers").
