Why?  Because you're also paying for the distribution,  stocking,  and
overhead,  all that sort of nonsense.  It's also much more costly to buy
one of anything than to buy "manufacturing quantities" of that
thing.  Just the economics of it,  I guess.

Not so much marketing,  though of course the makers of stuff would prefer
to have you buy new than to repair the old.

Me,  I don't like it much,  that it so often costs so much to fix things
that it's not worth doing and cheaper to buy new.  But trying to buck the
economics of the situation doesn't pay,  does it?
