BL> I have no affection for zmodem... it just happened to be there. BL> It's a totally brain-dead protocol in 1997 with error BL> correcting modems runnign at high speed. PE> Zmodem is brain-dead? Why? Because it does too much too often using too-small a buffer. In the days of 2400 baud and no on-the-fly error correcting modems, zmodem was great. That was a loooong time ago. A 5-second check on a noisy lines still makes some sort of sense, but that's not a 1024 buffer, it's a 16K buffer. For comms compression, dedicated hardware in the modem makes more sense than software. I can do error correction at the same time. BL> I did a search on 'ucp' and found a whole lot of shit (none of BL> it uupc, btw), but I've got all I need now (fxuucico and BL> compress.exe). PE> It's 'upc' you should have searched on. Think about it for a while, use your alleged intelligence, and you'll see you are wrong. PE> Incidentally, someone (maybe you) sent me something compressed PE> with gzip No... PE> The newsgroups I have don't actually go to anyone else on the PE> internet. I know how to feed newsgroups that I fetch from the PE> internet to you, but not the other way around (yet). Although PE> ones that other UUCP sites send to me directly do (I think) go PE> out to you automatically. I got quite a lot of stuff. The comms protocol seems to work. Now all I have to do is process it... Regards, Bob ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 @EOT: ---* Origin: Precision Nonsense, Sydney (3:711/934.12) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 @PATH: 711/934 |
