CS> *** Quoting Barbara Hazen from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***
CS> Came in in the middle of this one. I'm an old time candle maker.
BH> However, I am always looking for new ideas for candles, or any other
BH> sort of homey ideas I can use as either gifts, or for my own use.
CS> Grin! I normally type this sort of message in the Crafting echo, but
Can you tell me abit about that one? Is it on the backbone? If so,
I'll ask my sys-op to get it.
CS> Candles make great, practical gifts for very little money.
BH> Since you said you make lots of candles, I would be interested in any
BH> recipes and info you can give me on what and/or how you do them.
CS> I make the big fat type, that actually are useful in a storm. I'd
CS> exterior provides a windbreak to the center shell that burns. Sounds
CS> pretty, doenst work with diddly if you burn it more than 15 mins My favorite molds are 3inch ones, with the wicks sold for 4inch
CS> candles. As anyone who actually *uses* candles for any reason knows,
CS> the wick standards are under the needs unless you put the candle out
CS> every 30 mins and let it get solid again before using it more. (The
CS> fatter the candle, the more obvious this is).
I didn't know that. I'm afraid I'm not very knoledgeable about the
subject. All I have done is some small candles in babyfood jars. Chris
gave me some ideas for tree shaped candles which I will try soon. Where
do you get your moulds and supplies?
CS> Recipe? Hell, its just hot wax and a wick with color chips and scent.
CS> Safety note: Use only scents made for candles vice just any bottle
CS> of perfume you have about.
Actually, when I made them before, I used some pure oils for scent. I
am a registered Massage Therapist, so I have lots of different pure
essential oils which I use during my treatments. They seemed to work
out well.
CS> basic method of making them you seem to have, since you are not new to
CS> candles.
I'm not really sure. I'm always looking to make sure I'm doing things
right.
Thanks for the info.
