DM> So, anyway, I've probably axed this before, but now that Cap'n Chris
DM> has shown up on radar again, what are three to ten of the best
DM> Italian Prog CD's for somebody primarily familiar with the US PFM
DM> and Banco LP's? _Per Un Amico_, of course, and what by Le Orme?
Banco's first three albums are a must.
I am partial to Le Orme's first five albums, although I did like the rockier
exercises in Smogmagica and Verita Nascoste. I think they will play the
Smogmagica stuff since it was about LA when they come to progfest in May.
Looks like I will be going down and that I will have a chance at a major
photo shoot with them and the other bands..... YEAHHHHH... add it to my
collection and Gong album cover....
I have always thought that other than the big three, or so, most Italian
prog was not that great, though it had many moments. But in all fairness
I have not heard much since 1985, or later. I did use to play UNO ( for
iots Hipgnosis cover ), BRAINTICKET, ULTIMA SPIAGGIA, ACADEMIA ROAYLE DE
MUSICA ( something like that ), AREA, and several other smaller bands, but
few did get my attention, although ACQUA FRAGILE's first two albums, I
thought were really nice and moody, and a pleasure to have in the
collection, even if they were not progressive, or anything of that nature.
But none of them had the spark and design that PFM, Banco and Le Orme had.
I am hoping to do something terribly illegal, for myself and a handful of
friends only. I still have many radio shows that I was a part of from the
70's and I am hoping to get my fingers on a good CD burner, and transfer
some of these to CD, so we don't lose them. In there, for example, there
is in one show a half hour of Genesis, Acqua Fragile, Fruup, Strawbs, Wig
am,
PFM, Banco, Le Orme and a few other bands that would knock your socks off,
and just about showed why we were the best import show around, EVER. We
had the music and played it. If Mike T. heard this collection he would
freak.
... bunuel___we all live with our own 'angel exterminador'...
