There's been lots of people connecting to me, and saying how they've got it
all sussed out, and even sending me mail, but no-one has yet actually
confirmed what they mean by "working". I need to know:
1. Are you receiving UUCP mail that includes messages from me saying
"Sunday test" etc?
2. Are you receiving UUCP mail from other users, especially Jeff Green
(since he's gating messages from here).
3. Have you successfully sent UUCP mail yourself?
If I can establish that MY system is set up correctly (by the above), then
I can move on to the next issues...
Since I intend to go UUCP holus bolus, I will be shutting down my fidonet
system (running under the much-maligned OS/2 system), and converting to
24-hour UUCP access.
But I don't want to rudely chop anyone off. So I want to know:
1. Who needs help to get their UUCP software set up?
2. Who needs a UUCP account?
3. Who needs more time (how much) to set up their UUCP account?
One of the options I have would be to run my system as fidonet 8-9pm
instead of vice-versa. Depends how many people are in each camp.
But like I said, this is all dependent on confirmation that my own system
is set up correctly!!! BFN. Paul.
P.S. BTW, I'll be setting up a "dial.sysop" newsgroup soon, which
will hopefully be spread to the other sysops interested in the new network,
to discuss where we want to take this. BTW, under the new structure,
EVERYONE is actually a sysop, since everyone who doesn't have a phone that
answers in UUCP is a private node!
P.P.S. I must say that I am very happy at the moment. Absolutely astounded
would probably be a better way of describing it. I was expecting it would
take another few weeks to find software suitable for MSDOS, plus heaps of
debugging both ends, but instead it all happened in about 2 days after I
spent the initial 4 weeks (2 days being the time taken for me to get my
modem to answer to Alan successfully connecting (although there's still no
confirmation that he actually liked what he got!)!
