Hello Vladimir. 22 May 06 11:51, you wrote to Philip Lozier: PL>> Well.. when asked both seem to refer to a difference in the PL>> softwares used by people here and there, and that points are a PL>> big thing. VD> Language problem - so we need software with cirillic support. You are not the only one that can not make do with the 26 letters in the ASCII character set. Many European languages have that problem, mine included. Nothing new. VD> And very high cost intercity phone calls require connections over VD> Internet. In that you are not unique either. *Every* region in FidoNet has had to deal with that problem at some time in its history. Hell, we - R28 -, had a seven year cost sharing war over telephone costs. VD> As I see on 1:140/1 - R50's echoes is very majority of all echoes of VD> Z1. I down't know what traffic in Z1 echoes per a day, in R50 backbone VD> have 8 megabytes per a day (250 MB per a month) unpacked datas. In the haydays of FidoNet it was the same in Western Europe. You are just lagging a few years behind. PL>> Another comment was that due to the Russian echoes being PL>> available in usenet under fido7.* that new "traditional" fidonet PL>> node and point growth is stalled and the region is shrinking PL>> because of it. So what's new? The very same thing happened in other regions in Z2. Just a few years earlier. Experiments with gating Fidonet to usenet have always failed in the sense that it lost us more participants than it gained. Why is it so difficult to learn from the experience of others? What is happening now in R50 is nothing new, it is just history repeating. It has happened in Z1 and it has happened in Western Europe. And now it is happening in R50. It seems you, our friends in Eastern Europe, have been in isolation and you haven't noticed what happened to others though. You seem to think what is happening in your region is unique....
