Snipping but I'd actually heard some of this as nautical tradition but
wasnt sure if it was true or not.  Nautical traditions tend to be a bit
'embellished' at times (grin).

Yes, they still sleep in the radio shack BTW, but not for the exact same
reason (SOS).  For other emergency needs though.  Been there, done that
every 6th day in port for years now.
