Some important questions that I forgot to write in the previous messages. Are you playing the igms from a BBS or on your system in Local Mode? As to the corrupt config file question, that might cause the igm to declare the shop without an owner. But if the data file in question is the igm's, it should not have any effect that would wipe out a Lord character. But if the corruption is in the player.dat file, that could indeed cause you to lose one or more characters. You really need to get in touch with Michael Preslar and see if he can help you. But you'll have to use Lord 4.07 beta. He can only work with a current compilation of the most current Lord game, since the code for 4.06 is "Locked" by Metropolis Gameport and not change-able. You might also try using Lord/Linux beta which you can get from Michael directly via email request I think. However, it does not work with IGMs. If you are playing the IGM in local mode, then you can protect yourself from losing characters fairly easily. Copy player.dat to a player.bkp file before you run Lord. If something happens to a character after using an igm, such as Pawn Shop, just exit LORD. Then replace player.dat which is now corrupted with the player.bkp file. But if you are using Lord on a bbs, the only fix for a lost character is to get the sysop to rebuild your character. And to get it as close as possible to what you had before you lost the character, he/she would need a copy of the Stats Lord screen. Which probably would be in the capture log of your comm program or telnet browser, if you use capture logs. > Hmmm in all cases the user had more than 240 minutes time when he started the > game, a gamelasts 10-12 minutes normally, if no IGM's played ... Some IGMs like Pawn Shop will let you play a long time. And others don't let you stay around a long time. You can get into and out of an igm such as my Violet's Cottage ii program in just a few minutes. Lord is very "fussy" about dumping you if you spend more than a couple of minutes without keyboard activity while you are playing. Now that is very aggravating I think. > Running the latest versions of the igm's downled 2-3 days ago from you site. > It is not possible to test using a DOS boot disk, as DOS does not understand >the file system, but it would probably be possible to zip the directories, and > transfer them to a WIN98 system, and see what happens there. That is a good idea. Let me know if you try it, as to what the results are. > Many thanks for your reply, it has given me something to consider, and think > about. > Am now prepared to sacrifice my last level 10 player to see if it will happen >again, especially after the newly created player has survived - in local mode. > Am looking forward to The Pawnshop working as it seems to be a very useful > place. > Again thank you for your time and the IGM's > Russell Thank you for the compliments. And I hope you don't have more problems while using Pawn Shop (or Gem Trader). There will be new betas of both available sometime after New year's Day, that you can download from my web-site, using http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/igm-beta.htm web-page. Let me know if you need any more assistance. DOnald. --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
