I've got a Digital Vision ComputerEyes RT board (sounds impressive, but
it's old enough to where I'm gonna trade it in on one of the new DV
boards).  It catches 640x480 24-bit color stills from a VCR input.
It's a bit upstream of the one you're referring to that has the catchy
one-word name (which I forget).
  Anyway, it does the job.  I re-scale a pic to 320x200 and then convert
from 24-bit (umpteen million colors) to 8-bit (256 colors), and the
