On 3/24/97, George Erdner grokked "Re: New Temporary Moderat", and said to
Scott R. Godin:
SRG> Recently introduced to a brief listen to Porcupine Tree.. any opini
SRG> of them?
GE> Never heard (or heard OF) them. I looked for Porcupine Tree at several
GE> stores, and found nothing. And that included a store with a computer
GE> kiosk for searching for obscure recordings.
slowly the light begins to dawn...
SRG> What is this I hear about marillion not touring in the US and som
SRG> somewhere collecting donations for them to tour here?? is this a
SRG> reality scam??? Inquiring minds want to know!
GE> I haven't heard anything about Marillion outside of this echo. I asked
GE> some of the other DJ's at the radio station where I work, and none of
GE> them knew anything about Marillion, either. In fact, none of them had
GE> ever heard of Marillion.
NOW do you see why we need an echo like this? so that we can talk about and
find out about the OBSCURE and HARD TO FIND prog music we LOVE so much???????
And why we are so ADAMANT that talk about mainstream rock be curtailed as
MUCH as POSSIBLE?????
For some good starter information about these two, check out
http://prog.ari.net/prog/GEPR/gepr.html and do a search.
Also, why would you think that a DJ, whose experience lies mostly with the
pop cheeze-whiz radio-airplay Bump-n-grind House-music styles might know
anything about Prog? (I happen to know a few folks who ARE DJ's and who are
VERY exploratory in their music selections, and even DO sneak the occaisional
Prog tune or two into the mix, but this is a much rarer breed.)
Marillion's been around since my high-school years, over a decade ago. Ozric
Tentacles has over 12 or 13 albums out! Ozrics are currently my 2nd Fave
Group of All Time and I _never_ would have heard of them or even _tried_ them
if it hadn't been for this group.
For which, of course, they have my undying gratitude. :D
