DD>> I don't know if it will run off straight 6V - I should test
DD>> that....

BL> Of course it will! Unless I don't understand what you've got.

DD> Well - it's not a VCR for a start. DVD players tend to have
DD> more microprocessor stuff inside than a VCR (or should I say
DD> this thing appears "smarter" than my VCR).

They have to be... to find tracks. It's probably the same micro
anyway.

DD> The DVD player was purchased from an electronics outlet - and
DD> came with the 240 to 6.3v switch-mode PSU. The power rating
DD> written on the bottom of the player says: "6.3V 3A", same as
DD> the output of the PSU.

MADE IN PRC? The ChiComs aren't terribly fussy about accurate
numbers. It sounds a bit much, to me. If we were in a sweep, I'd be
hoping to draw the 1 amp horse.

BL> *IF* you're using a 6.3V inverter, there is *another*
BL> possibility... maybe your 6.3V inverter will run off 12V! You'd
BL> have to get a circuit, but if it's a straight 6.3V to 240 AC
BL> inverter, it's almost odds-on that it'll run perfectly well off
BL> 12V.

DD> Dunno - the sticker on the underside of the PSU says: "Input
DD> 110-240V ~ 50-60Hz 1A", Output 6.3V 3A". It made me think it
DD> needs the AC cycle.....

Got it now... I'd recommend the 6V battery approach (or tap into
your 12V system for 6V).

Regards,
Bob
