Well, I hope you've got a good edge on that machete of yours!
I'm not sure I'm understanding exactly what you bought. If it
was fresh cuttings of pussy willow, I can't imagine that it wouldn't
root for you... (and you wouldn't necesarily have to make your
cuttings "4" long, unless that is the length that you desire to begin
with... I'd make mine longer on this particular shrub, as I don't
want to have to wait so long for something of size... just my choice,
you understand :) However, if it is a *dried* twig, dried with the
intent of using it in a dried arrangement, then you can soak that twig
until Jesus comes back again, and all you're going to end up with
is a piece of wet pussy willow! (I really hope you are refering to
*fresh* cuttings, as they should give you plenty of "forest"...
Forgive me for not understanding, as cuttings are usually not
sold in the retail marketplace in the U.S. (that I'm aware of... and
I've got quite afew years in the nursery industry). They are sold
*to* the nursery industry as cuttings or, more often, rooted cuttings,
or liners, as they are called, but I don't think I've ever seen just the
cuttings sold. However, I'm sure this isn't necessarily the case, the
world over :)
cheers,
WL Sakowski
