subject: Pedestrians

Hi all,
I heard an RTA spin-doctor for the bureaucrats say that 20
pedestrians were killed this long wekend.

His SPIN was in two parts:

1. In half the cases it was their own fault
2. Pedestrians need an campaign to make them use marked crossings.

BTW, when did bureaucrats get their own spinmeisters and advertising?

 My ANTI-SPIN translation is:

1. Half the pedestrians were killed on marked crossings.
2. The other half must have been committing suicide.
3. The RTA needs to justify an expensive adverstising campaign.

BTW, I was horrified to discover that the RTA has spawned an offshoot
bureaucracy, the MAA (Motor Accidents Authority). I look forward to
the next one, the SAA (Spin Advertising Authority).

I love the concept of fault, when applied to a car KILLING a
pedestrian. If they were really serious about saving lives, protecting
pedestrians rather than just blame them for crossing the road where
even a marked crossing is only a 50:50 proposition, why not introduce
a mandatory year of hard time in gaol for *any* dead body caused as
the result of driving your car? If you drive a car, and kill, it's
*YOUR* fault!

I seems to me that a driver might then take pedestrians (and bike
riders) seriously. The thought of a year as a dyke's girlfriend or a
bikie's boyfriend ought to turn the trick. It might even make marked
pedestrian crossing a little bit safer than 50:50.

BTW, there is a crossing near a roundabout at Cabarita that is a lot
less safer than 50:50. Residents took up a petition, but the RTA was
unmoved. Their spin doctors simply explain away the dead bodies. What
we realyl need is more advertising...

 I despair.

Regards,
Bob
