I don't know where to get KT88s but aren't they similar to 6V6s?  They
were smaller than EL34s I think.  If not, EL34s should work.  Again,
minor differences but of course a purist would want the original type.
 
I will look for AM on 29 MHz when the cycle gets closer to the peak.  I
have AM capability albeit with my IC-721.  And I have an amplifier so
shouldn't have any problem getting out.
 
I would like to get a TS-930S.  Might you know of one gathering dust or
somehow for sale?  I don't like the newer fancy rigs, too hard to work
on and too complex.  I have worked a ton of DX with my simple rigs, but
would like a nicer receiver.
