JL> The only major problem I've had so far in connecting with one of your JL> modems. I would classify that situation as being typical of line impairment RS> Thats nuts, V34 should be able to do a HELL of a lot better than RS> that, AND not require manual intervention to achieve it either. JL> The problem only occurs at certain times. Sounds like it might be the same problem biting Dave Hatch currently. Do you know what phone exchange technology and stuff like fibre to the pillar you have on your line ? JL> Symptoms show a narrowing of line bandwidth for some obscure reason. Are you saying you have MEASURED a reduction in bandwidth or you think the symptoms indicate that ? V34 is supposed to auto compensate for that. JL> A half duplex protocol would have better JL> success in handling such line conditions. I'm not convinced, V34 is a hell of a lot more practical way to handle that that a half duplex protocol. The only exception is where the session has some massive problem with echo cancellation characteristics varying, in which case a half duplex protocol has real advantages. JL> However since Paul's M34F doesn't implement half-duplex JL> operational mode in V.34 (Amongst a lack of other things) I'm SOL. If you really are just seeing a bandwidth reduction, full duplex V34 should handle it fine. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 |
