BG> Hi Rob!

BG> Can you come up with a single quote anywhere where I said such a

BG> I'm sorry your feelings are hurt, but you are probably really ticked at
BG> me now!
BG> I'll stand behind everything I said.Coming from a pro-audio background

BG> They are nearly overwhelmingly impossible, one of the reasons for my
BG> comments, and yes, I have consulted on a number of fine auto audio
BG> installations and none of them come close to the ideal above. Just what

BG> stage, flatness and evenness of frequency response. absence of
BG> distortion, tolerable sound with clarity and excellence in engineering
BG> have to do with most car audio?
BG> Perhaps I'm being a little heavy handed, and you may have more
BG> expertise than most that might be as offended, but very little that
BG> I've heard from the stock auto to the highest tweaked systems does
BG> much to impress me as faithfully reproducing music the way it was
BG> originally recorded, and that If you're ticked enough, good.. Start up
BG> a Car Audio echo so we can talk about real audio stuff here.
Hi Bonnie! Long time, no hear from. I already replied to this guy so I
won't run all over it again. VERY much agree that there should be a car
audio echo for these folks. I have not been here for quite a while and it
looks as if they've taken over and with the usual assortment of bad
spelling, stupid statements and just plain wrong information. Why doesn't
someone start an echo for 'em? What's required? (not that I want anything
to do with it!!)
Thought I'd update you on some things here is sunny (HOT) Florida:
A maximum db law finally has been enacted (hurray). We still have the
flappers, but perhaps not at the overall levels I was hearing before. You
can go near a beach now and not get too beat up, though it's still very
much there. Maybe they scared away the red tide with bass. God help us
if that were proven to be true!
I am still doing recording projects, but am about to grab up some new
gear. I did a session two weeks ago with a really good keyboard player
and the sax player that did the original Pink Panther - not that the
Panther playing was so great, but this guy can play! He was in the
Mancini orchestra for quite a while and has an incredible resume. I still
am using my Yamaha board and MiniDisk and the results are amazing. Better
as I learn more about these situations. I am taking the MiniDisk and
using the SP/DIFF outs into a Digital Only card on a PC. Then I bash the
audio around with Sound Forge and burn it to CD. This setup works really
well for me - BUT -
I need multi-tracking. This last session was excellent, but the keyboard
player decided to play all the bass parts live on pedals and the playing
could have been better - much better. Also, he tried to manage drum fills
played by fingers in certain spots and didn't quite get it. The result of
all this is a great sounding session that is flawed. Sigh. I am looking
at the new ADAT and a Mackie 24x8 board. Not heavy hitting studio gear,
but what think? I seem to remember that you have pretty extensive ADAT
experience? What about the Tascam Hi8? SAW? I have $5 - 6000 to put
into the recorder and board. I KNOW you get what you pay for, but I think
I can achieve some pretty good results with this setup. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated. I need to record 8 tracks at one time and
that lets out many of the PC based systems right away (Session 8 would be
cool, but I keep hearing that it does not sound as good as some other
alternatives).
Guess that'll do it. I look forward to hearing from you. Keep the faith
- there are still a few of us that appreciate what you do!
Take care. Tom Moore, Gator Gulch TBBS
