Pedestrians are a funny lot. By funny, I mean brain dead. On that note,
drivers when confronted with a pedestrian crossing are a funny lot too. And by
that, I also mean brain dead.

Take campsie for instance. Have you been through campsie lately? No, of
course not, no-one in their right mind would go through Campsie, but if you
had, you'll notice how they've changed their crossing points.

They used to have clearly marked crossing points, a speed hump, a fence
bordering the crossing to force pedestrians to use the crossing line confines.

They found too many pedestrians were getting killed at the crossings.

So, to "fix" it, they simply block all the pedestrian crossings
with those
barriers they normally use to block cars. Even the one directly in front of
Campsie train station, debateably the most used one.

So yes, now, the ONLY way to cross the road in campsie is either at the few
select traffic lights that have a crossing, or the preferable option, to
jaywalk in front of moving traffic.

Somehow, statistically, it's safer to cross the road jaywalking in front of
moving traffic, rather than use the designated marked crossings.
