The next best thing to Digidesign's Pro Tools? Digidesign's Session 882 I/O, or
even cheaper but still "THE" industry standard... Digidesign's "AudioMedia" (3)
card (PCI) and SoundDesigner software that comes with it. all for under $1k.
You might be able to find AudioMedia II for even cheaper and it's a NuBus card
in case you don't have a PCI mac.
It's the standard for 2 track editing on a mac AND... if you use a digital
audio sequencer, like Emagic's Logic Audio, MOTU's Digital Performer, or
Opcode's Studio Vision, you get 4 tracks of digital audio to play with!!!
Also, AudioMedia III is a PCI based card, you can get it for your Mac or your
PC (WITH windows software as well).
Sync up your midi data, along with some samples, throw some effects on it, mix
it down and BAM... you have a nice little remix.
Believe me, it works... I work for X-Mix Remix service and some of our smaller
studios still have that setup. (That's all Armand Van Helden uses).
