Hi Andy,
 
  Yes, the JROTC program is an excellent primer for the senior program, 
but even if one doesn't go on, it serves as a great "civics" type 
class.

Cool, I grew up in southeastern Connecticut (Mystic/Groton area) and 
as you're probably aware the Coast Guard Academy is right across the 
Thames river in New London CT, been there many times as a youth with 
friends who served in the USCG.  Good luck to you!
