You've probably got my code by now, but I do #2. I have a list of known Areas and numbers (for QWK) which I list. I process each "AREA: line by comparing it to the list. If it fails, I put it in my UNKNOWN area, rather than put doubtful messages into NETMAIL. IMO, the important thing is not to lose a message, as long as it is possible to process the message without damaging others. If it *is* Netmail with a stray AREA: (added only by a sysop, BTW, because points have a #1FMPT line) then you still see it and can make up your own mind what to do with it.
