True, but do you know anyone else that will supply 1 x LM2595 ?
Fuck, I couldn't even buy 1,000 of them locally through Avnet or any other
NatSemi distributor and ended up having to source them direct from teh states
myself.  So, what other options would you realistically suggest for 1 off ?

Except that you won't find one which can pull 3 amps !!!   Jaycar have one which
is 1.5 amps, but I don't think that would work for very long...  Mind you, I'd
like to be corrected on that, coz it would save me 15 minutes of math and 2
hours finding the bits in catalouges.
