JT> Pedestrians are a funny lot. By funny, I mean brain dead.

JT> Take campsie for instance. Have you been through campsie
JT> lately? No, of course not, no-one in their right mind would go

Not recently... but those fences and things made it a lot like
Russian Roulette with six bullets in the cylinder. They sort of jump
out at you (but they're only Chinese, so it doesn't really matter if
you hit a few).

JT> They used to have clearly marked crossing points, a speed hump,
JT> a fence bordering the crossing to force pedestrians to use the
JT> crossing line confines. They found too many pedestrians were
JT> getting killed at the crossings.

 I wonder why...

JT> So, to "fix" it, they simply block all the pedestrian crossings
JT> with those barriers they normally use to block cars. Even the
JT> one directly in front of Campsie train station, debateably the
JT> most used one.

ROFL! Don't tell me what comes next...

JT> So yes, now, the ONLY way to cross the road in campsie is
JT> either at the few select traffic lights that have a crossing,
JT> or the preferable option, to jaywalk in front of moving
JT> traffic.

I told you not to tell me!

JT> Somehow, statistically, it's safer to cross the road jaywalking
JT> in front of moving traffic, rather than use the designated
JT> marked crossings.

That's pretty true. When you jaywalk, you are more alert and you
give way...

The problem with marked crossings is that pedestrians have right of
way and use it. Concord has two, with trees and a fence in between to
make it hard to see the pedestrian, and it's *bloody* dangerous. As a
driver, I slow right down... but as a pedestrian I stride out with
total confidence. It's weird, like being on foot makes it safe.

Bob
