I got it working...here's how:
1. Downloaded the VESA.EXE file for WPDOS 6.x from the Corel ftp site,
location ftp.corel.com/pub/WordPerfect/wpdos/60.
2. Ran VESA.EXE, and move the vesa.vrs file to the wp60 directory.
3. Started WP, and changed to TEXT view.
4. Went through the display setup, choosing VESA VBE. WP warned me that the
mode I selected (1024x768x256 colors) may require a multisync monitor, and I
continued.
5. No lockup, so I switched back to Graphics mode. I have my high
resolution screen back at last.
I don't know if the newer VESA.VRS is necessary. It is a little different
than my original version. I suspect the secret is to switch to text mode
before making the change.
