Hi all,
I've just finished reading Alex Mitchell's version fo the LBJ
visit back in the 60's... and he's obviously become confused. That's
the Planet Splong version. The *real* version was totally different.

It was the Spring og '66, I'd just been made chief engineer of Pye,
Vietnam was going full bore, Harold Holt hadn't taken his Xmas swim
yet, he'd just come back from the US where he'd coined the phrase "all
the way with LBJ." LBJ loved him! It was the first time an American
President had visited Oz, Vietnam was going to shit, and they were
*very* nervous. The gutless wankers who were terrified of doing
their duty for Australia (we didn't call them wankers, yet) were
detirmined to ruin the occasion. Heroin had not yet arrived, the big
bucks was R&R vice, and the Premier of NSW was Bob Askin who ran Crime
from the top, by example. He'd tricked the wankers by allocating them
a prime area, they could not believe their good luck... and then he
put the Mormon Tabanacle Choir in it! ROFL!

They had to improvise, so they broke the lines in Macquarie St and
lay down on the street, in front of the Presidential car.

According to Mitchell (I suspect he's queer as well as a stupid
liar) LBJ and Askin were frightened, and na angry Askin caid "Run over
them!"

What *actually* happened, is that he and LBJ in the car and a
nervous Police Commission Allen (who was a silly idiot like Mitchell)
came to the car and asked Bob Askin what to do. "Run the bastards
over!" he said, which horrified Allen, and as soon as he'd gone he and
LBJ killed themselves laughing. Everyone but the wankers agreed with
Askin, who was reelected in a landslide. No one was run over. It was a
joke, Joyce.

After Sydney, LBJ went to Canberra and then Queensland, and by this
time he realised that Australians loved him, and the scared the shit
out of his Secret Service by walking into the crowd shaking hands. we
loved him! There was *no* ill feeling. In fact, when Holt set the
World Record for underwater swimming, LBJ came *back* to Oz for the
funeral. This was the only place on earth where poor LBJ could get an
enthusiastic welcome without wankers screaming Vietnam abuse at him.

And then the cap Mitchell's "history" he said that the visit changed
the direction of Australia. We hated LBJ so much that we all voted
labor. He seems to forget that we actually voted for John Gorton. Poor
fuckwit Gough was not elected until 1972... six years later!

Mitchell says that those running Australai were at the protest, and
quote Lee Riahnnon as an example... the leader fo the Greens in NSW.
Wow! How much infulence does she have? - fuck all. Where was Bob Askin
and Johnny Howard? Not in the protest, that's for sure.

It's just silly. In 1966, we believed that our only defence
against Asia was the US, All the Way with LBJ was a fair statement of
piolicy, and 99% of the popluation were in favour of Vietnam
(including me). We saw it as the necessary defence of our way of life
against creeping Commos, and those who went did their duty for Oz.
The ones who protested were basically cowards. That's what we beoieved
then, and that is what I still believe.. gutless wankers terrified to
do their duty, and broken men like poor Tom Urine who never revovered
from Changi. I spit on Jim Cairns and I rejoice in seeing the cunt
dead at last. Pathetic wankers who damaged my country.

We the majority were wrong... but that's the way it was in 1966. I
was there. Alex Mitchell was there too... hiding in Uni doing an Arts
degree to be safe from the lottery.

Regards,
Bob
