Unless you have an expensive internet connection it may not be so
bad. :-)

The DDK has been placed online. I am not sure if I understand it
correctly but it looks like the DDK CD_ROMS are frozen and all future
updates to the DDK will be on a WEB page so that they can get the changes
out quicker. You can download most everything now including the build
kit and testing suite which includes the C/2 compiler, IBM's version of
MSC 6.0. the ALP assembler IBM's semi clone of MASM, and a version of
MASM 5.1. You must fill out the registration and license agreement to
get access but the online DDK appears to be free except for your
personal download costs. In case you think that I am mistaken, here is a
confirming message posted on IBM Talklink

Subject: Developer Connection DDK for OS/2
Ref: Append at 21:11:32 on 96/10/15 GMT (by SETERA at RCHVMX2)

The DDK is now available at the following URL.
         http://service.software.ibm.com/ddk

The DDK is still available through the normal Developer Connection
distribution channels for those who need the CDROM version.

Both the CDROM and internet versions are identical except that the
internet version has compressed ZIP files containing the actual
source. Some customers may choose to purchase the CDROM version
of the product based on local download cost/speed issues.

The DDK product will continue to be enhanced for the foreseeable future,
but only the internet version.

Some will see this as a good thing, other's will use it for the on going
"kernal is frozen" conspiracy theories running in the press and the
usenet. In any case I hope this helps you; everyone has to get their
own, the license seems to forbid redistribution. The site is slow at
times but that could be because this info is just getting out to
people that could not justify the DDK on CD subscription cost. WEBEX 1.1f
seems to work fine on it.
