This all depends.  My ol' i486DX 33MHz running OS/2 (without buffered
UARTs) would run happily with 28.8Kbps DCE/DCE and 57.6Kbps DCE/DTE, as
long as I didn't over-stress it.  As soon as I tried playing an audio CD
(using the interrupt-driven SCSI port on the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 card),
the number of generated interrupts skyrocketed and characters started being
lost.

This situation has since been "rectified", though.  ;-)
