FR>rm> I cannot speak for ALL atheists, but I can say that
FR>rm> I have grown out of the need for a deity concept.
FR>As primates I think that most humans still need an Alpha Male.
To restate this in evolutionary terms, we humans have a neocortex
fourtimes the size of a chimp neocortex, but the deeper/earlier
part of our brain, the emotional/instinctive part, is not substantially
different.
Our emotions tend to drive us to instinctive behaviors having to do with
establishment and defense of territory, mating, establishment of a
place in the social hierarchy, mating, mating, and mating. Etc.
How so much
FR>better when they construct an invisible Alpha which can't be reached and
FR>thus can't be challanged and dethroned.
FR>With this unreachable, invisible Alpha Male mounted at the top, the greedy
FR>and the control freaks and manipulate the ignorant, the weak, and the
FR>gullible.
Yup.
FR>Atheists, I think, upset theists because atheists don't _need_ such
primitive
FR>postureing and weak-willed submission to the ape with the biggest balls.
I would reframe this by saying that atheists _believe_ they don't need
such primitive etc. But their deep brain structure is the same as
everyone else's. Given the fact that brain structure is the same,
there may well be 'right' personalities fanatically devoted to
destroying the influence of those pernicious 'right' personalities.
The outcome is not hard to predict.
FR>MB>>> Simply because you disagree with someone -they automatically are
FR>MB>>> labeled religious?
FR>FR> Well? You opened your yap,
FR>FR> shall I close it for you?
FR>rm> If you feel it is imperative to take such
FR>rm> a silly comment seriously, sure.
FR>I apologize profusely. Lacking any indication that it was done in jest I
FR>took immediate exception. Please accept my apology.
NOW we're on solid ground. The thing that distinguishes sane people
from True Believers is that sane people can admit when they're wrong.
This raises what I think is one of the 5 or 10 most crucial
philosophical questions of all time: why is it so damned hard
to admit that you're wrong?
Isn't much of the slaughter and misery of human history based on
this inability? Ya got any ideas?
