When I first began my quest I tried an older Velvodyne (15" and don't 
remember the model) with my mains. It just didn't sound right. No matter what 
we did....it just plain sounded out of sync...like one or the other was too 
slow. Although from the reading I have done since I now know that that wasn't 
the actual case as much as it was an effect. 
        Since, I have heard one of the newer models with the advanced 
circuitry with a pair of Focusesezessss and they sounded very tight and crisp 
together. But I am definately not one to buy for a brand name sake. The Defin 
Tech (15" self amplified) gets first try. Even though I have the extra amp to 
drive one I have gotten over my fear of the self powered units by listening 
to several and seeing the quality of the amps. I ahve not checked prices in 
my area on the Defin Techs, but saving several hundred dollars is an 
excellent goal!
