The terms 'seal' and 'gasket' have been used interchangeably for some
years. 'Seal' would be the more proper though in the case of microwave
ovens.

Luckily I've not known directly of anyone suffering serious injury outside
of laboratory conditions where extremes may exist in pursuit of an
objective. As far as 'home appliance type microwaves' it is difficult for
me to comprehend that a person would not feel body parts heating, or some
form of discomfort and move away or shut down the power. It is not an
instantaneous process as is nuclear radiaton, and you DO feel it. An older
person, or one with Diabetes would have greatly reduced sensitivity, and
should never work around heating or cooling equipment.
I have heard of such injuries, and you have first-hand knowledge of some
cases, they do happen.
CA> Discussions of working on TVs 'hot' and working on Microwaves

It bothers me more to see some shadetree mechanic 'tuning' a running car
engine wearing loose fitting clothing, bracelets, jewelry, etc. I've even
seen such people operating machine tools in local private shops down here.
One gust of breeze through the shop, and someone will be missing a hand or
worse.
Good luck... M.
