This makes sense. I know that roots will shoot downwards as a
natural act, and we've all seen root systems that have gone into
an endless circular loop around the base of a pot.

When I was your age we didn't have shoes. We had to ... (g!)
WI>watering, too *much* watering, uneven watering, sour soil,
This too makes sense. I suspect that 90% of the deaths in my
families are due to over-watering, which all too often results
from under-watering and then feeling guilty. The other 10% are
due to premature handling, as in "Come on. You've been in that
pot for two weeks now. I want to play with you again ..."
WI>Seedlings are another matter, as they normally don't stay in a

Not at all blah blah blah. This is the first year I've really
gotten into a rich variety of plants - hanging baskets, potted
cactii, and seedlings and cuttings by the gadzillions. My
backround is really outdoors-gardening.
Up to now I've been very disorganised. However, I have decided to
rationalise my equipment, and to lay in, little by little, a
supply of lakeshore sand, pebbles and compost soil etc and
likewise to accumulate a stock of pots of varying sizes to house
the plants to best effect.
I noticed this week that a tomato ("tom-ar-toe") plant has sprung
up in my little decorative box of peppers, so I'll take advantage
of it and migrate it to its own, slightly larger pot, this
weekend.
Thanks again for this, and your previous informative posts.
