I thought you told me before that you had tried a Velodyne and
you thought it was too slow to keep up with your Foci. (maybe it was
someone on one of the Usenet audio groups) I haven't really listened
to them myself, but I've heard that about them a couple of times on
Usenet...maybe it was just a particular model.
Which Definitive Subs have you heard? But yeah, I thought the
Definitives were pretty darn impressive...that's why I bought one. I
got a good deal at the time (I had a coupon for the store for 20% off)
and so I got the PF-1500 for $800 instead of $1000. I'm still amazed
at how well it blends with my ribbon speakers...so well in fact that
I'm crossing straight to the ribbons and not even using the AL-III's
woofers.

Which models exactly are you considering? When I was looking at
subs, the equivalent sub (specs wise) was $1500 from Velodyne. For
$1600, you can get the 18" Definitive. I'd make darn sure the
Velodyne was better before I'd spring for an extra $500 on it. (or
are you looking at the 12" model?)

Wow. Your wife must really be understanding to let you move to

Well, that's good to hear. I'm considering it for a replacement
for the TFM-35x, which I would then delegate to surround duty with the
Defintive BP-2s. I find the AL-IIIs will take all the power you can
throw at them with dynamic material. (and this is with the woofers
not even running!) I'd probably need two to safely run the woofers.
But then, I think they're worth the hassle. I have yet to hear a
better mid-range driver (haven't heard Legacy yet so I can't comment)
I did like them better than Martin Logan, however and they're less of
a pain. At least I don't have to vacuum my speakers once a month. :-)
