I have no idea what's happening. I asked about the printer because the
printer has a profound effect on the way Word formats things, even while
viewing them on screen. There is a tight coupling between the printer driver
and screen formatting.
On the screen, one piece of text can overlay another, making it appear as if
it was wiped out, but its really just one line overwriting another.
I would suggest you try the old trick of renaming NORMAL.DOT while Word is
shutdown, then restarting it. That will create a new default NORMAL.DOT and
eliminate any problems in this critical file.
