BL> Pathetic wankers who damaged my country. BL> We the majority were wrong... but that's the way it was in BL> 1966. I was there. Alex Mitchell was there too... hiding in Uni BL> doing an Arts degree to be safe from the lottery. DD> Did you go to Vietnam Bob? No. I was one of the half-million lucky ones who supported the five-thousand who lost the lottery and went willingly. My family has never been to *any* war, not through cowardice or dishonour, but simply by being born at the right time - too old or too young for the current conflict. I missed Vietnam by being too old, and my brother missed by being too young. We even missed Nasho. Dad missed WWII by a year. Even so, at the time I would have done my duty to Australia if my birthday had come out of the lottery. I had nothing but disdain for the gutless ones who were called, and suddenly discovered they were devout cowards (like George W and Clinton). I also believed that Vietnam was an honourable war necessary for Australia's survival, and I saw protestors as gutless shit. I still do. I was pleased to see that Jim Cairns died. Good riddance. I'd have shipped every protestor to Hanoi, and that was the majority attitude btw, until 1970 or so. So, we were wrong... but it's easy to be right ten years on.
