Hi Arnaud--
I sometimes use the Microsoft BASIC PDS 7.1 compiler (vintage 1990)
in "protected" mode to modify my old 16-bit OS/2 programs that were
written for it. It was written when MS and IBM were still speaking to
each other, so supports OS/2 1.1 (text-mode only). Unfortunately, the
compiler is no longer supported by MS, and is unlikely to be available
from them. You might advertise to see if anybody has one for sale. Make
sure you get both manuals, and make sure you get version 7.1, not 7.0
(even so, there are a few remaining bugs). PDS 7.x is not completely
compatible with QuickBASIC; but none of the versions of QuickBASIC were
completely compatible with each other!
IBM may soon release a Visual Age compiler for BASIC. A prerelease
version is on DevCon 11. Presumably, it will eventually be released,
will probably be very expensive, but is rumored to be compatible with
Visual BASIC for Windows. The blurb states that (for a limited time)
you can download an evaluation version of Visual Age BASIC from
http://www.software.ibm.com/ad/vabasic
This is all I know about it; I don't intend to try it out, as all my
new home-grown utilities are written in IBM PL/I for OS/2).
Hope this helps,
