Thanks for the reply.
I was afraid you guys would tell me something like that..Is'ent this
just like life what ever you like is bad for you...grin... well any
way would not knowingly do any thing to hurt Sleebee. I have found
she likes Apple Juice tryed after reading about it on this echo. I
mix in some vitimens as she dose'nt seeme to take well to fruts and
veggies. She just refuses to eat pellets so I have her back on seeds
and give her fruit and veggies ever day. she playes with them so I
know she eats some of it. I have tried feeding her from the table but
struck out there also have tryed rice pasta green beans, sweet patatoes
baked and mashed white patatoes amoung other things. So you can see why
I was hoping for the coffee, any way the apple juice will work..

Hi Gene,
You say that your CAG will not eat pellets. How many days in a row did
you offer them? My experience with CAGs (I breed them and have 7
currently> is that they are quite slow to accept new things, especially
adult birds. It will take 3-5 WEEKS to convert most CAGs to pellets from
seed. Begin by presenting the seed mix with 10% replaced with pellets.
Over several weeks increase the pellets in 10% increments, being sure to
keep an eye on the bird's weight. If you are feeding more than 50% pellets
and record a weight loss of 5-7% go back to 50% and begin again from
there, increasing the time at each increment. This method should convert
most parrots, but it is NOT an immediate process. You can't just give
pellets one or two days and expect the bird to switch.
Also, I usually leave the seed/pellet mixture available at all times
to the bird. A mix of vegs and fruit or rice/beans/vegs is offered in the
morning and removed after a few hours (due to possibility of spoiling>.
Again, as with the pellets, you will have to present the same foods many
days in a row before most seed-only parrots will begin sampling. Some
fresh foods that are very popular with CAGs are: grapes (seedless only>,
bananas, corn (fresh or frozen, not canned-too much salt in canned foods>,
peas (again, fresh or frozen>, uncooked veggie pastas (I use Hodgson's
Mill Veggie Rotini. Flavors and colors are very strong and our birds all
love them.)
Some people remove the seed/pellet mixture when they present the
fresh food, then replace it when they remove the fresh stuff. This method
also works with some birds. Try each method and see what works best with
your bird...again, be sure to give at least a couple of weeks on each
method before changing to the other method.
Be sure to feed the fresh foods in the morning if you can. From what
I have read, this is the bird's instictive feeding method. Fresh stuff
early in the day, then a nap, then dry stuff later in the day.
With luck and persistance, most parrots will convert to a healthy
diet. Only in the most extreme cases can you do a *cold-turkey* switch
from a seed only diet to a healthy combination of pellets and fresh food.
Also, present only one day's worth of food at a time and give fresh
servings each day. Yes, this tends to waste some food, but you can toss
the leftovers out for the wild creatures. They are usually quite happy to
have them. This is better for your parrots. Even seeds and pellets tend to
spoil and/or lose their nutritional value when left too long in the bird's
cage. Also, even if you don't see it, there is contamination in the food
from feather and fecal dust/debris, bird-mouth germs and airborne insect
feces, dust mites, etc.
Hope this helps in your quest to feed your bird a better diet.
Obviously, this is just my opinion; but I have had good results in
converting seed-eaters to a healthier diet using this method.
