Subject: trial of cab driver in New Orleans
Yesterday was the trial of that cab driver who bodily through the
Canadian woman out of his cab rather than accept her dog guide
during the N.F.B. convention in New Orleans. This is unofficial,
but it is my understanding that He was fined
$300.00 and made to perform 160 hours of community service work
at the local Lighthouse for the Blind. The woman, Sandy Dewden
also has a civil suit pending. The driver only faced criminal
charges of assault and battery; not for refusing a dog guide. The
civil suit will be for that. I don't understand why he didn't
face both charges because the White Cane law has both civil and
criminal penalties in Louisiana as I understand it.
