I would do 3), but not directly (probably).  I would instead
see that it is for area "", but that, just like "FRED" and
"^C" is not an area defined on my system, so it has no exports
to send the message onto, so into the bit-bucket it goes.  Or
if not the bit bucket, into an "unknown" holding area.  Either
way, I would treat "" and "FRED" exactly the same.  I don't
consider "" to be any worse than a ctrl-C, so wouldn't make a
special case for either of them.  Grunged is grunged.  And into
the bit bucket for all!  BFN.  Paul.
