Watcom C++ is by far the least expensive compiler I know of.

Only if you intend to install it (hosted) on all platforms and 
with full RTL source code, and so on... When I installed it, I
guess it took less than 100 MB on my HD. I cannot tell it for
certain, though, since I am currently not using Watcom C++.

Depends... VisualAge C++ is even slower. I believe the Watcom
performance is tolerable.

You deserve that, if you write single source files of 100k! A C/C++
source file should usually not exceed 10-20k.
