  50 years ago?

  The Tassie Abos are in the same place as the Apaches, and in
approximately the same time frame. There were only ever 1,000 of them
and they lived a precarious existence at best. It is silly to speak of
that in the same breath as Australia today or the White Australia
Policy of 50 years ago. That was 150 years ago in another era.

  But even then, in the 1850s when we were poisoning Abos and burning
Chinese, Australia was generally more tolerant of race than other
countries in that same period. We can only compare eras, not look
backwards from 1996 and judge 1846 by those medern standards.

  This is not true, and it has never been true. We were "*never* "one
of the most racist countries" and we are not now one of the most racist
countries on earth. In fact, we are one of the *least* racist
countries on earth. We actively discriminate *against* the majority to
help racist minorities.
