I wouldn't put my eggs in that basket anymore.
I tried already the beta 2.30 & 2.31 drivers. The beta 2.30 are even worser
than the 2.22, the 2.31 gives an amelioration, but it is still bad, bad enough
to be not acceptable at all.
And you've noticed probably Matrox only makes Windxxx9x only executables
bios-upgrades avaible. There's a workaround ofcoz, but imho that's not very
reassuring in respect to Matrox's support for non-Windoze platforms.
Anyway, in almost the same computer (same Mobo, SCSI-system, but only 64 Mb
Ram instead of 256 on mine), I put there an S3 Virge DX. With the latest
1.03.25 drivers. Well, this el cheapo works marvellous. Even though the S3
has only 4 Mb memory whereas the matrox has 8.
The NS glitches, the lockups and hangs simply doesn't occur on the S3 'puter.
Moreover, if on mine, when I do switch the Matrox drivers for the SDD, these
miserable phenomenae go away. This is a solid confirmation the Matrox drivers
do suck indeed.
Only snag with the SDD drivers here is the Acrobatic reader does acrobatics.
I'm hoping this will be fixed togheter with the SDD general release.

Must say I hadn't had any lock up on the S3 'puter hit hereto.
AR> You can be very sure I'm not at all happy to report that.
You can be sure I'm not happy at all with this Matrox stuff.
Groeten uit Gent,
Regards/2
