Bob, at 10:57 on Jun 14 1996, you wrote to Dieter Mirbach... DM> Maybe. Does your BIOS support LBA ? BL> Yes. You're laughing, then. DM> If not, you can get a VLB that supports large HDD's - it "patches" in to DM> the HDD calls and substitutes its own code. Or somewhat similar. BL> Is this the infamous disk mangler? No, I think that Dieter is actually talking about BIOSed controllers here. BL> But my BIOS knows about LBA, so where does that leave me? Exactly where you WANT to be. I promise you. :) BL> Do I need a special VLB board or just an ordinary one. You don't actually NEED a special IDE controller though. You could even use an old 8-bit ISA card if you were that way inclined, but these days, you can pick up a 32-bit VLB EIDE controller with 16550 UARTS (not that you'd actually see any benefit, as you run an internal modem anyway), with primary AND secondary HD controllers so that you can run up to four separate EIDE devices, for under $25 (and that's RETAIL!). BL> I need the VLB controller anyway to add CD. Only if it's an ATAPI CD-ROM drive, and even then, you don't need the secondary controller if you're only running one HD (just slave the CD to your HD).
