Bob, at 08:22 on Jun 14 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... BL> I notice that EIDE quad speed is down to $120 and I'm tempted.... BG> Wait just a bit longer. Quads are now only $68 inc (dealer). BL> Thieving bastards. If I wait too long, they'll stop selling them. Quite likely. Tried buying a 2X drive these days? Even the 6X and 8X models' prices are dropping faster than Teddy's knickers... BL> What's the latest on 16Mb RAM? RAM prices are so volatile now, that by the time I receive the latest price lists, they're already out of date! The most recent price I have though, is $187 dealer inc tax (so they're probably _retailing_ for that now, if not even less). BL> While you're there... my battery is going flat; the clock stops BL> overnight and the CMOS is next, I suppose. When I looked in the BL> computer it's a round disc with Lithium written on it, in a clever BL> round socket mounted horizontally. It measures 3.2V and does not seem BL> to charge up. I'm not at all surprised. BL> My questions are these: BL> Is this a non-rechargable battery? Yep. BL> What voltage is it supposed to be? Bloody hell, I can't immediately recall the Lithium's voltage now; probably either 1V2 or 1V35 though (I'm sure that Rod will gladly look it up for you). BL> How long do they last? I generally have them lasting around 5 years from date of manufacture. BL> How much are they? Not dear, maybe only $5 or so. Why not just piss it off, and use an external NiCd battery pack, which will fit on the 4-pin connector which just happens to live near the existing Lithium battery? I'm not really fussed on disposable batteries which are soldered directly to the motherboard anyway.
