  As far as I know, the fastest modem on the market is a 28800 BPS... there
may be something around 30000 BPS, but not much more.  57600 is out of the
question.  If you modem is reporting that, then you have it set to report the
locked rate (COM port speed) rather then the connect rate of your modem.  Eg,
I have my port locked at 19200 BPS, but my modem connects at 14400 BPS.  So I
would look at your actual connect speed before making any decisions.  :)
