For Midid you are probably OK. For regular audio tracks, the CPU/RAM is
fine, and the hard disk will probably be OK up to about 8 tracks (possibly
more...it depends on the specs of your drive, SCSI is the way to go for
mucho tracks), but the Sound Blaster card isn't the best. I know it's the
best 'Sound Blaster', but Creative Labs tends to favor the game market over
the musician market. Their 'full-duplex' drivers sometimes have problems
(i.e. playback while recording is of lower quality, etc.). A card which
seems to have gotten great reviews is the Card D+ from Digital Audio Labs.
It's about $600 though. The big news in cards though is that several new
cards will be hitting the market soon (next 30-180 days) that are generally
PCI based (as opposed to ISA - i.e. no IRQ's), and have multiple audio ins
and outs instead of the single line-in out kacks on cheap cards or stereo
pairs on yuor SB Gold.
