Where do you stop? I think you had it right the first time. Linux has been designed to annoy old farts. Why else does that part work so well? The other possibility is that the uniwankers writing Linux are dickheads. I found myself in Win311 the other day, for the first time in months. I have a little Grep program written in Borland OWL that runs nicely in Win98, but there wasn't enough room for all these stupiddirectories that go.. C:/whoosis/watsis/erk/dork/wank/etc/... When I wrote it, I never imagined I'd have a path half a screen wide, so I had to go back and give ti a tickle. The only trouble is, that while DOS/Win311 programs run beautifully under Win98, I have to boot Win31 to compile the old ones. While I was there, I wondered if I could set up the Network under Win311. Talk about easy! I had it running in five minutes - no problem, no need to look up the book, it was obvious even to an old fart like me. Now I can't understand why M$ ever changed from Win311! Not only is it smaller, and runs about five-times faster than Win98 (and Linux), but it's dead easy. So... it locks up occasionally, but it reboots in ten seconds anyway. In fact, it's easier to just forget about the problem and reboot. I have this dereadful premonition that Windows software is headign always in the direction of bad, and that Bill Gates is actually the Devil, leading us through the Gates of Hell.
