They were probably all valid at the time but four years later some =
may have expired. The CA certs you have installed such as those from =
Verisign, GTE, etc have to come from somewhere. You can download the =
latest set from Windows Update.

what about the /certs directory he mentioned, that doesn't contain any =
valid
  certs right?

You really should learn to apply even a minimal filter to the crap =
you
spread. I saw this same stupid message and laughed at the guy.

If you wish, you can find the current versions of signcode.exe and
makecert.exe in Visual Studio and I believe the .NET Framework SDK. =
They
are probably in the Windows Platform SDK too. I'm not sure that
iexpress.exe is released. It's a tool for making small installable =
EXEs.

    for Rich

Just wondered if this is what it seems. I don't believe the certs =
are
unguarded or given out to outside companies with source so it seemed
unlikely to me but figured I'd ask anyway.

    Geo.

NOW EVERY EXECUTABLE IS TRUSTED AND DIGITALY SIGNED

    found this interesting...
    \win2k\private\inet\mshtml\build\scripts\tools\x86

    iexpress.exe
    signcode.exe
    makecert.exe ( DigSig.dll )

( in fast food voice ) and who would you like your package to be =
certified
    from today sir?
    \win2k\private\ispu\pkitrust\initpki\certs\

looks like the viri / trojan kiddies will have some fun with this.
    yikes to PE format executables.

    alas... i could be wrong,
