Hi Donna,
It seems I had neglected to reply to a bunch of messages in my mailbox.
Found this one from you.
DR> > 1/2 a year of subbing in a period of how much time?
DR>5 years.
DR> > After all that would

DR>I came close one year, but when we moved up here and I started subbing in
>Poway, I didn't.
1/2 a year - which would be about 90 days - in a 5 year period is
alright. I usually do at least 140 days a year. :)
DR> > Do all teacher have to take a Special Ed, etc.
> > requirement? How long are
DR>Yes. They are usually 3 semester hour classes (45 clock hours, I think
hat
>works out to be).
I'm glad to hear this is a requirement there. I always thought it should
be here, too. In Metro Toronto, they also should require ESL. I hear
things are a changing and Teacher training courses are including Special
Ed now. When I took it I had to fight to get one class on it. In the end
all we got was a couple of minutes from the professor. :(
DR>"Mainstreaming" is a pedagogy class on how to handle a special ed child
who

often
>mainstreamed for either a short period each day or for various classes.

>child has a talent for a given subject.
It is the same here, except that many schools have special ed kids fully
integrated into the classroom. In some cases this makes things
impossible - for the teacher, student and classmates. :(
